In a book Caroline checked out from the library there are pointers on how to photograph your family/children. One of the pointers is to compose pictures from the background to the front. If the background is not good or is distracting, move on. The final picture will be no good. I think of this every time I compose shots now.
Another tip was to take a picture of your child while they are crying. A nice contrast to all of the smiling pics you accumulate.
So here you go. Happy 1/2 birthday!

It's official....you are now the better photographer. I am really impressed.
The background thing is hard for people like me who never have a clean, pretty background. I'm tired of all these blogs with Pottery Barn backdrops, aka their home...I want to see pictures of someone's kid sitting by the pices of toilet paper on the wet bathroom floor...with the dirty laundry or a can of lysol... That's a REAL photo.
I do love your pics though...VERY good work. I'll keep your tips in mind!
Dave took the photos. dude, that was an old blanket Mamo gave me in college! the usual blanket we use had cat pee on it.
Dave loves that lens, but I have a hard time getting stuff in focus. I think I should totally stage a real life photo of Anneke, with snot coming out of her nose, apricots all over her face, and baby vitamins dribbled on her clothes.
some of the cutest pictures I have of peanut was a series of shots where she was pissed that I took away the markers. She had markers all over her face and was making the saddest faces. She was never one to throw a temper, so it was extra funny.
