Question

Am writing from Arkansas after emerging from a catfish/shrimp po boy/purple-hull-pea/sweet-tea coma to ask my five readers to finish this sentence:

"Life is hard, so you may as well _________."

This is inspired by a conversation with my grandmother as she, my sister and I drove back from the beauty supply in El Dorado--Emily and I like to drive over and take advantage of the product hookup we get from having a friend in the hair business. I got to hear Mamo's take on what you may as well do. I think she's on to something.

Nanny's response to a four year old who just came in "second winner" in a rousing game of Go Fish:
"There is no second place."
I guess she would've said something like: life is hard so you may as well accept it.

Why do I think Mamaw (sp?) did not say, "crawl in bed and eat ice cream?"

I don't know, but I want to know what Mamaw says. I think if Matt's grandma Thelma were still alive she would have a good answer.

what i remember from my parents and grandparents was "life is hard so buck up" or "life is hard so grow a thick skin". Even though they were very compasionate and comforting (they just talked a tough game but they were ALL pushovers :) )

right now with little ones aroumd I think "life is hard so enjoy it when you can" or "life is hard so PLAY hard!"

Drink. But you knew I'd say that, right?

My mom would say she taught me better than that, and I should say...pray.
